Streamed, the live sports back end behind dozens of pirate sites, shuts down

Streamed, a service that supplied live sports streams to dozens of pirate websites, has shut down. Its homepage now carries a short farewell: "We are no longer operating Streamed. Thank you for the support over the years." The operators give no reason. TorrentFreak reported the closure on 27 October, less than three weeks after the Motion Picture Association (MPA) named Streamed as a growing piracy threat in a filing to the US government.

The same message appears on streamed.pk and streamed.st, and the strmd.link domain redirects to it. Instead of simply going dark, the page lists five other sports streaming sites, each with a one-line description. One of them, according to the operators, has "lots of ads".

How Streamed powered other pirate sites

Streamed belonged to a category the MPA calls "Piracy-as-a-Service". It offered ready-made video players with live sports that other sites could embed. A new pirate site could add football, NBA or UFC coverage without hosting a single stream. Viewers saw the player on many different domains, but the video came from Streamed's own servers.

That is why one shutdown hits dozens of sites at once. The MPA has named Mapple as one of the sites that relied on Streamed, and some of Mapple's sports streams now return a 404 error.

What the MPA told the US Trade Representative

On 7 October the MPA sent its annual list of notorious piracy markets to the Office of the US Trade Representative. Streamed was on it, listed under the Netherlands. Citing Similarweb data, the MPA wrote:

  • July 2025: about 29 pirate sites used Streamed, with 134 million visits between them.
  • July 2026: about 30 sites, with 463 million visits.

"None of the sites Streamed services host live content themselves; all traffic flows through Streamed as the PaaS, which relies entirely on its own infrastructure," the filing says. Many of those customers are what the MPA calls "hydra sites", free all-in-one portals such as HydraHD, Rivestream, StreamEX and Mapple that need no registration or subscription.

The streamed.pk domain also drew its own audience. Similarweb counted 19.76 million visits in September, 56% more than in August. Nearly half came from the United States, followed by Canada and the UK.

Why Streamed closed is still unclear

There is no seizure notice on the site, and neither the MPA nor the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), its anti-piracy coalition, has commented. Neither responded to TorrentFreak before publication. That does not rule out pressure from rightsholders. In the same filing, the MPA credited "MPA and ACE actions" for the closures of the streaming site Cineby and the anime portal AnimeFLV, even though neither site mentioned enforcement when it went down.

TorrentFreak considers a settlement with Hollywood unlikely, because the farewell page openly sends users to other pirate sites. Rightsholders have also been going after the infrastructure around such sites: in France, beIN Sports is pressing DNS resolvers to block pirate sports streams, and Quad9 has said it may leave the country rather than comply.
