vpnlab.io is an independent publication about privacy, censorship and internet blocking. We explain how governments and companies change access to the network, and we keep a VPN catalogue built on characteristics anyone can check.

How we work

• We work from primary sources: the text of the law, the court ruling, the regulator's report, the company's own statement. The links sit at the end of every article.
• We do not retell someone else's retelling. If a number or a quote exists only in a news write-up and no primary source confirms it, it does not go into the article.
• We separate fact from interpretation. Where we draw a conclusion it is marked as one, with the competing explanations named next to it.
• We correct mistakes inside the article itself and say what changed. Breaking stories get rechecked, because agencies often walk their statements back.
• We do not credit a VPN with things it does not do. A tunnel changes the country your connection appears to come from; it does not pass a check that asks for a document or a face. Where the tool changes nothing, we say so.

Who writes this

Articles are produced by the vpnlab.io editorial team. We do not sign texts with the names of experts who do not exist, and we do not invent biographies for them: if a piece carries no byline, the editorial team wrote it. Spotted a factual error? Write to us and the correction will appear in the article itself.

How we make money

The site carries affiliate links to VPN services: if you subscribe through one, the service pays us a commission and your price stays the same. It does not affect the ratings in the catalogue or which stories we cover. A place in a shortlist cannot be bought, and no provider gets to approve our text.

Languages

The site is published in seven languages: English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. Articles are translated in full rather than cut down to a summary, and each version keeps its sources in the original language.
